Santiago Juan Navarro

Santiago Juan-Navarro, Ph.D. (Columbia) – D.Phil. (Valencia), is a professor of Hispanic Literature and Film in the Department of Modern Languages at Florida International University (Miami, USA), where he has served as Graduate director (2002-2005; 2007-2008) and Associate Chair (2013-Present). His recent books include Juana of Castile: History and Myth of the Mad Queen (with Maria A. Gomez and Phyllis Zatlin), La ciudad en la literatura y el cine, and Memoria histórica, Género e Interdisciplinariedad: Los Estudios Culturales Hispánicos en el siglo XXI (both co-edited with Joan Torres-Pou). He has published over thirty articles in Revista Iberoamericana, Hispania, Letras peninsulares, Journal of Interdisciplinary Literary Studies, Anales de la Literatura Española Contemporánea, L´Ordinaire Latino-américain, Hispanic Journal, Bulletin of Hispanic Studies, Cinéastes, Frame, Pasavento, Archivos de la Filmoteca, Neohelicon, Hispanófila, Revista Hispano Cubana, Leidschrift, Boletín Hispánico Helvético, and Revista Canadiense de Estudios Hispánicos. In addition, he has authored three books and over twenty book chapters. Santiago serves on the editorial board of five scholarly journals, including Hispanic Journal, Chasqui, and Delaware Review of Latin American Studies. He has evaluated book manuscripts for university presses (Bucknell, SUNY, U of Arizona) and grant proposals for organizations and institutions such as the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada, Centre Interuniversitaire de Recherche sur l’Education et la culture, the Swiss National Science Foundation, City University of New York, and the Universidad Nacional de Colombia. Santiago’s research and teaching interests include historical fiction and film, transatlantic studies, Latin American culture, and comparative literature. He has conducted funded research in Havana (CRI, 2006) and Buenos Aires (NEH, 2007), and was recently selected to the Fulbright Senior Specialist Roster.
